Which Type Of Denture Is Right For Me?

If you're missing most or all of your teeth, you may be curious about replacing them with dentures. These restorations have been available for hundreds of years, but recent advancements in dental technology have made them much more versatile. There are now Denturesseveral types of dentures available, all with your specific dental needs in mind. Dr. Yati Yadav, DDS, FAGD, FICOI and his staff at Your Family Dentist, PC in Peoria, Arizona are pleased to offer these options to their patients.

Full or partial dentures

Full dentures, also known as complete dentures, are made for people who are totally edentulous, or without teeth, on one or both of their gum ridges. Partial dentures replace a small section of missing natural teeth. Both implements have a gum-colored plastic base with realistic porcelain or ceramic teeth attached. Partial dentures may have metal or plastic clasps that attach to neighboring natural teeth.

Removable or fixed dentures

After your Peoria dentist, Dr. Yadav has determined which style of dentures will meet your anatomical needs, the next step is to decide if you want removable or fixed dentures. Removable dentures, as the name implies, are designed to be taken out at night and after meals for cleaning. Fixed dentures stay in place through the use of metal clasps attached to dental implants. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages. Removable dentures, for example, are very affordable. They do require a period of adjustment, but most patients report being comfortable with the routine of removing, cleaning and replacing the denture plates. Fixed dentures tend to be more costly; however, their maintenance is much less intensive and the risk of breakage is minimized because they do not need to be handled several times a day.

Your Peoria dentist, Dr. Yadav, will be happy to discuss with you the various options you have for dentures. To set up a consultation, give Your Family Dentist, PC a call today!
